As India works towards its 2070 net-zero target, the Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) and the Hydrocarbon Sector Skill Council (HSSC) have jointly launched a Certificate Programme on Net-Zero and Carbon Ecosystems. The two-day course, scheduled for 23–24 August 2025, aims to upskill professionals and practitioners in sustainability, emissions accounting, and carbon market strategies.
The certificate course is designed for mid-level professionals, ESG analysts, early-career researchers, and sustainability officers looking to deepen their understanding of carbon ecosystems and climate transition mechanisms. It includes technical sessions, practical exercises, and applied learning modules to equip participants with tools to calculate firm-level emissions, understand emissions trading systems, and navigate voluntary and compliance-based carbon markets.

As India continues to be the world’s fastest-growing major economy, Fortune India presents its special issue on the nation’s Top 100 Billionaires. Curated in partnership with Waterfield Advisors, this year’s list reflects a slight decline in the number of dollar billionaires—from 185 to 182—even as the entry threshold for the Top 100 rose to ₹24,283 crore, up from ₹22,739 crore last year. From stalwarts like Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, and the Mistry family, who continue to lead the list, to major gainers such as Sunil Mittal and Kumar Mangalam Birla, the issue goes beyond the numbers to explore the resilience, ambition, and strategic foresight that define India’s wealth creators. Read their compelling stories in the latest issue of Fortune India. On stands now.
The initiative comes at a time when the country is seeing measurable progress in emissions reduction. According to India’s 4th Biennial Update Report (BUR-4), the country recorded a 7.93% decline in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2020 compared to 2019. The energy sector, which contributes over 75% of India’s total emissions, remains the primary focus of mitigation efforts.
The curriculum covers global climate frameworks such as the Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement, and CORSIA, alongside market mechanisms including the Perform, Achieve, and Trade (PAT) scheme and Energy Saving Certificates (ESCerts). Participants will also engage in real-world case studies and numerical simulations to apply concepts in industry-relevant scenarios.
By focusing on the operational aspects of decarbonisation and climate governance, the course aims to address the growing demand for a green-skilled workforce across public and private sectors.
Applications for the certificate programme close on August 16, 2025. The course will be held on BIMTECH’s campus in Greater Noida.
