Swedish home furnishings retailer IKEA will make an online entry into the North Indian market on March 1.

The company’s North Indian presence will span across Delhi-NCR and cities such as Agra, Prayagraj (Allahabad), Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ludhiana, and Varanasi. “Starting March 1, customers from these markets will be able to seamlessly explore and shop from its range of 7,000+ products and solutions through the IKEA app, website, and shop-by-phone assistance. Customers will not only enjoy the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) approach to assembling IKEA furniture but also benefit from the brand’s home furnishing expertise through remote planning, interior design services, and seamless assembly and installation support,” IKEA said in a statement.

Before the launch of online sales, the company opened its first central distribution centre in Gurugram earlier this week. This 180,000 sq. ft. facility will support both the e-commerce expansion and the upcoming large-format stores in the IKEA-anchored Ingka Centres projects in Gurugram and Noida. The company also stated that it will continue to develop more effective replenishment and fulfilment capabilities while transforming last-mile deliveries to ensure faster, more sustainable, and affordable services.

“As we continue to strengthen our omnichannel growth in the country, this launch in Delhi-NCR and other markets will be a strong foundation for our future growth in the region,” said Susanne Pulverer, CEO & Chief Sustainability Officer, IKEA India.

IKEA India’s stores have welcomed nearly 300 million online and offline visitors and serve over 2.7 million customers in India. Even before its formal entry into the market, nearly 1 lakh customers in Delhi-NCR had signed up to be part of IKEA’s customer base.

IKEA has conducted thousands of home visits across India to go beyond furniture and truly understand how people live—their daily rituals, needs, and aspirations—to make its solutions relevant, smart, and affordable, the company said.

“With our deep understanding of India’s unique home living needs—whether it’s multi-generational living, low-cost solutions, raising children, or optimizing small spaces—we aim to bring meaningful solutions to the North. This will allow us to make our wide range of products more accessible, even as we move closer to launching our stores in the region. Currently, over 30% of our sales come from online channels, making e-commerce a powerful and fast-growing segment for IKEA in India,” Pulverer said.

IKEA has a four-decade-long history of sourcing from India—developing, sourcing, and supplying IKEA products globally.
