As India continues to be the world’s fastest-growing major economy, Fortune India presents its special issue on the nation’s Top 100 Billionaires. Curated in partnership with Waterfield Advisors, this year’s list reflects a slight decline in the number of dollar billionaires—from 185 to 182—even as the entry threshold for the Top 100 rose to ₹24,283 crore, up from ₹22,739 crore last year. From stalwarts like Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, and the Mistry family, who continue to lead the list, to major gainers such as Sunil Mittal and Kumar Mangalam Birla, the issue goes beyond the numbers to explore the resilience, ambition, and strategic foresight that define India’s wealth creators. The recent increase in cases has reportedly been linked to the emergence of the new XFG variant. The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) has reportedly identified several cases associated with this variant, though further details are awaited.
In response to the rising numbers, the Union Health Ministry has initiated a coordinated assessment of the country’s public health preparedness. High-level meetings were held on June 2 and 3 under the chairpersonship of Dr. Sunita Sharma, Director General of Health Services (DGHS), with participation from both central and state health officials.
The meetings reviewed the current Covid-19 situation and outlined a preventive strategy to curb further escalation. Officials emphasised surveillance, testing, hospital preparedness, and genome sequencing in light of the new variant's spread.
While the numbers remain relatively low compared to earlier waves, health authorities are urging states to remain vigilant. The situation continues to be monitored closely, and advisories on testing and containment are being reviewed.
The Covid-19 dashboard continues to track and update the nationwide data, offering a real-time view of the evolving situation. As of now, no major restrictions or lockdowns have been announced, but states have been asked to stay alert and reinforce basic public health protocols where necessary.
