KFin Technologies (KFintech) plans to expand its anti-money laundering (AML) platform InPro beyond the portfolio management services (PMS) industry over the next two to three years, as it looks to build a common compliance technology infrastructure for regulated financial services businesses.

Launched on October 1 in partnership with the Association of Portfolio Managers in India (APMI), InPro enables PMS providers to screen investor profiles, monitor changing risk indicators and manage compliance alerts through a common technology platform.

“Building on its adoption across capital markets, we plan to extend InPro to other BFSI segments over the next two to three years,” Praveen Shankaran, Chief Operating Officer at KFintech, told Fortune India.

The immediate focus is to expand adoption across the PMS industry through APMI’s industry-wide initiative. The platform is designed to serve portfolio managers that may lack the scale or resources to independently build and maintain sophisticated AML systems.

“APMI’s adoption of InPro provides the platform with an industry-wide distribution model across its member portfolio managers,” Shankaran said.

The shared infrastructure allows multiple PMS firms to use a common technology platform while maintaining their individual workflows, controls and audit trails. The addressable customer base extends across PMS firms covered by APMI, with the platform designed to scale as more members come on board.

KFintech, however, did not specify its revenue targets for InPro, the number of PMS firms it expects to onboard or the volume of investor profiles it aims to screen.

From screening to continuous monitoring

InPro allows PMS providers to screen investor profiles against global sanctions lists, Indian debarment lists, politically exposed person databases, regulatory watchlists and adverse media sources. Screening can be conducted during onboarding and repeated when customer information or relevant risk indicators change.

Potential matches are routed through a Maker Checker workflow, enabling compliance teams to review alerts, resolve false positives, escalate cases and document decisions. The platform also maintains records of screening activity and review actions for regulatory and internal audits.

“The key outcome is to make AML operations more structured, continuous and technology-led,” Shankaran said.

The platform brings screening, monitoring, alert management, case workflows and audit trails into a single environment. Its near real-time decision-making and downstream action capabilities are designed to help institutions respond to potential risks more quickly.

For PMS firms, the shared infrastructure model could also reduce the need to invest independently in multiple AML technology components. Other potential benefits include faster screening and review, more consistent workflows and improved audit readiness.

Beyond the PMS industry

KFintech sees scope to apply InPro’s underlying capabilities across other regulated financial services businesses that need customer screening, ongoing risk monitoring and documented compliance decisions.

“The broader opportunity for KFintech is therefore to build InPro as a scalable compliance infrastructure layer, rather than a solution designed only for one segment,” Shankaran said.

The company’s next phase of expansion will depend on extending adoption beyond its initial PMS use case to other BFSI segments, building on the platform’s capabilities in screening, monitoring and compliance case management.
