Ola Electric Limited on Friday announced a significant expansion of its in-house 4680 Bharat Cell platform, positioning it as a broader energy and storage solution beyond electric mobility, as the company looks to tap new revenue streams across residential energy and business-to-business (B2B) applications.
Unveiled at its ‘Prarambh 2026’ event, the move marks Ola Electric’s formal entry into India’s residential battery energy storage system (BESS) market and opens up direct sales of its 4680 Bharat Cells and modular 1.5 kWh battery packs to businesses and startups. The cells are being offered for use across sectors such as electric vehicles, drones, robotics and portable medical equipment, signalling the company’s intent to monetise its cell manufacturing capabilities beyond captive consumption.
Bhavish Aggarwal, founder of Ola Electric, stated, “The 4680 Bharat Cell is at the core of our in-house energy and mobility ecosystem, and we are now scaling this platform well beyond consumer vehicles and residential energy. By opening up the 4680 Bharat Cell platform to businesses and startups, we are enabling a wide range of applications, from humanoids and drones to electric vehicles and portable medical machines.”
He revealed that businesses can either purchase the 4680 Bharat Cell directly or leverage its 1.5 kWh 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack to rapidly build and scale their products. “With one cell and one scalable platform powering mobility, energy and advanced technologies, we are building a future-ready energy backbone designed, engineered and manufactured in India,” he noted.

The Bengaluru-based electric vehicle maker also commenced deliveries of its flagship electric motorcycle, the Roadster X+ with a 9.1 kWh battery, and said it has scaled up nationwide deliveries of the S1 Pro+ scooter equipped with a 5.2 kWh battery pack—both powered by the 4680 Bharat Cell.
By opening access to its cells for external customers, Ola Electric is seeking to establish itself as a domestic supplier of advanced lithium-ion cells at a time when India is accelerating efforts to localise battery manufacturing and reduce import dependence.
In a parallel push into distributed energy storage, Ola Electric announced the commercial rollout of its residential BESS product, Ola Shakti. The system will be sold in two configurations—3 kW/5.2 kWh and 6 kW/9.1 kWh—targeting households, farms and small businesses seeking backup power solutions amid rising electricity costs and grid reliability concerns. Deliveries of the higher-capacity variant are scheduled to begin by the end of January 2026, followed by the smaller system in mid-February.
The 4680 Bharat Cell now serves as a common platform underpinning Ola Electric’s two-wheeler portfolio and its energy storage products, reflecting a strategy to drive scale efficiencies through a unified cell architecture.
