Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), a unit of Tata Power Co. and India’s top rooftop solar provider, today said that it has launched what it claims to be India’s most affordable residential solar solution in Odisha. The announcement is part of the renewable energy major’s push to make clean energy more accessible.

TPREL’s plan, which it unveiled in the capital city of Bhubaneswar under the company’s ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ campaign, offers solar systems starting at just ₹2,499 for a 1 kW setup, with options of ₹4,999 for 2 kW and ₹7,999 for 3 kW systems. Customers can opt for monthly instalments beginning at ₹1,249 for tenures ranging from 25 to 30 months, making rooftop solar installation a feasible option for middle-income families across the state.

“This first-of-its-kind initiative is set to accelerate residential rooftop solar adoption across the state by enabling customers to pay just one-third of the total amount, making solar power more accessible, affordable, and seamlessly integrated into households,” the company said in a statement.

TPREL’s latest initiative comes as India intensifies efforts to boost rooftop solar penetration, particularly in underserved regions. The programme is further buttressed by government subsidies: households in Odisha can claim up to ₹1.38 lakh in combined central and state support for a 3 kW system, significantly slashing the upfront burden and effectively covering close to 40% of installation costs.

Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, central subsidies of up to ₹78,000 are available, while the state government pitches in with ₹60,000 for the largest home systems.

Odisha, traditionally slow to adopt decentralised solar infrastructure, has witnessed a notable shift. According to TPREL, the company’s customer base in the state has jumped more than four-fold—from just 430 to 1,759 households, fuelled largely by awareness campaigns and easier affordability.

“In FY25 alone, the company onboarded 1,033 new solar rooftop customers, a tenfold increase from FY24 in the state. The Commercial & Industrial (C&I) segment also showed consistent growth in Odisha, with 76 consumers added in FY25, up from 56 consumers in FY24,” TPREL said.

The commercial and industrial segment, too, saw steady uptake, with 76 new customers signed up in FY25 compared to 56 in the previous fiscal year. Tata Power is also expanding its offerings beyond standard rooftop panels.
