Uber has expanded its Intercity offering to cover more than 3,000 routes across India, a 50% increase in its city-to-city network. The expansion reflects rising demand for long-distance road travel and growing infrastructure connecting metros with smaller cities.
“More and more people are choosing to hit the road for quick getaways, family visits, or even business meetings, and they want travel that’s easy, reliable, and comfortable,” said Shweta Mantri, head – Rider Verticals, Uber India and South Asia. “That’s exactly what Uber Intercity offers, and with the expansion of routes we’re doubling down on transforming outstation road travel for millions.”
The company has also launched a limited-period Intercity Motorhomes pilot in Delhi-NCR. Bookings open on August 4 and the service will be available from August 7 to September 6 via a dedicated icon on the Uber app. Each vehicle seats 4-5 riders and comes with a driver and helper. The features, the company said, will include a TV, microwave, mini-refrigerator, lavatory, and app-based functions like Reserve, real-time tracking, multiple stops, and 24x7 support.
These motorhomes are designed to cater to users looking for weekend getaways or special travel occasions, offering a “private lounge-on-wheels” experience, said Mantri.
Popular routes over the past year include Mumbai–Pune, Delhi–Agra, Bangalore–Mysore, Lucknow–Kanpur, and Ahmedabad–Vadodara. Notably, rider interest tends to peak around long weekends, festivals like Diwali, Holi, Eid, and the summer wedding season. Fridays remain the most popular day for departures, with users typically leaving either early morning or during low-traffic windows between 2 PM and 3 PM.
While one-way Intercity rides continue to serve family visits, business travel, and airport transfers, Uber is seeing rising demand for round trips, especially for leisure, pilgrimage, and events.
With this expansion and product innovation, Uber is positioning itself as a flexible option for both short- and long-haul road travel in India.
