The India–European Union Free Trade Agreement will open new opportunities for Bharti Airtel to invest in Europe’s digital infrastructure, Bharti Enterprises founder and chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal said following Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen joint announcement of the conclusion of the long-pending India–EU FTA at the 16th India–EU Summit in New Delhi.

“This agreement also opens opportunities for Indian companies like Airtel to invest in the digital infrastructure in Europe,” Mittal said in a statement.

Mittal said the agreement creates a stronger framework for collaboration at a time when global companies are re-evaluating markets and long-term partnerships. He described the FTA as an outcome of decisive political leadership on both sides. “The signing of the India-EU FTA reflects the decisive leadership & strategic resolve of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the European political leadership in strengthening the India–EU partnership,” he added.

Beyond immediate commercial benefits, Mittal underlined the strategic significance of the deal in a shifting global economic landscape. “In a changing global economic order, the agreement sends a powerful signal of trust, stability, and long-term partnership,” he said, adding that the pact goes beyond trade to create a predictable environment for sustained investment.

He said the FTA could unlock new areas of cooperation between Indian and European companies, particularly in technology-driven sectors. “I am confident that this FTA will open new avenues for collaboration, particularly in digital infrastructure, space connectivity, and secure networks, offering European investors a compelling opportunity to innovate and scale with India for global markets,” Mittal said.

Congratulating policymakers on both sides, Mittal said, “I congratulate our leadership and the people of India and the European Union on this turning point in our shared future,” describing the agreement as a milestone in the evolution of the India–EU partnership.
