Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first phase of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) worth ₹19,650 crore on Wednesday. During his two-day visit to Maharashtra, PM Modi will also be inaugurating the final Phase (2B) of Mumbai Metro Line-3 from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade, completing the entire 33.5 km Aqua Line built at over ₹37,270 crore.

PM Modi is also set to hold a bilateral meeting with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who will be on his first official visit to India.

Once completed, NMIA will be India’s largest greenfield airport and Mumbai’s second international airport. Spread over 1,160 hectares, it will eventually handle 90 million passengers annually and 3.25 million metric tonnes of cargo. The airport will feature a People Mover System for inter-terminal transfers, Sustainable Aviation Fuel storage, 47 MW of solar power, EV bus services, and India’s first airport water-taxi connectivity. Phase 1 of the airport has been developed under a PPP model.

With the inauguration of Mumbai Metro Line-3 from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade, Mumbai will get its first fully underground metro. The metro line-3 will serve 13 lakh passengers daily, connecting passengers across 27 stations to key areas, including Fort, Marine Drive, BSE, RBI, and Mantralaya.

Aside from the various infrastructure launches, the PM will also launch “Mumbai One”, India’s first integrated common mobility app. The app is set to facilitate unified ticketing and journey planning across 11 public transport operators, including metro, monorail, suburban rail, and municipal bus networks in the city.
