Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited at Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU 2025) Convocation Address today, exhorted students to be good at using AI as a tool in learning while at the same time, not give up their own critical thinking.

"Talking of Artificial Intelligence, I have a piece of advice to our young students. You must be good at using AI as a tool in learning. But do not give up your own critical thinking. ChatGPT ka zaroor istemaal karo (sure you can use ChatGPT). Lekin yaad rakho: Artificial Buddhi se nahin, Khud ki Buddhi se hi aap aage badh sakte hain (But remember, you will only advance with your mind, not with the artificial intelligence," says the RIL Chairman.

Ambani-led RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani has tied up with global chip maker Nvidia to design and build AI infrastructure in India. Reliance is setting up gigawatt-scale AI data centres in Jamnagar, powered entirely by Reliance's green energy. In Jamnagar, RIL is planning a big scale-up in infrastructure, with infra for 1 gigawatt, which is expandable to multiple gigawatts at one location.

Ambani says within a couple of years, India will emerge as the third-largest economy in the world. "I can foresee that India will become the most prosperous nation in the world before the end of this century."

But India, along with other large economies, also has a big responsibility, he says. "We must not allow economic growth to endanger Planet Earth and further worsen the Climate Crisis."

Ambani says India's transition from fossil fuels to clean and green energy has to be accelerated. "I am supremely confident that Green Technologies and Green Enterprises can reverse the ecological degradation and ─ indeed ─ make our Planet more beautiful and more liveable for future generations," says Mukesh Ambani.

In his expectations from the PDEU students, Ambani says PDEU should improve the quality of research and make it application-driven. "We should especially focus on newer areas like Bio-Energy, which have the potential to help our farmers and boost employment opportunities."

Ambani also says the intersection of green energy, green materials and AI is going to shape the future of humanity. "I would like PDEU to gain a leading position in this synergy," says Ambani.

He also appreciated banking veteran Uday Kotak, who was chief guest at the event, calling him "a bold visionary, and a big achiever". "When he was young, he was a dreamer like all of you. He was among the first Indians to realise an important truth. He knew that India could not become a global economic powerhouse without world-class institutions in banking and financial services. He built Kotak Mahindra Bank from the ground up into one of India’s most successful banks," Ambani told students.

Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for India, Ambani says he owes the university's very birth to his extraordinary vision. "Long before he became India’s Prime Minister, he foresaw that India needed to become Atmanirbhar in energy. Over twenty years ago, he told me he wanted Gujarat to lead the nation in energy and energy products. He also told me that Gujarat should take the lead in cultivating world-class human resources needed to achieve India’s clean energy ambitions. That is how he helped establish this pioneering university," says the RIL Chairman.
