Knowledge-sharing platform Quora launched its services in Hindi on Thursday in its efforts to expand its user base in India.

The Hindi service will be separate from the English version, but users can switch between languages on the website.

"The launch of Quora Hindi is an expansion of our mission to share knowledge. We will soon launch the platform in other Indian languages…" said Gautam Shewakramani, India country manager, Quora.

The company had been running a beta version of the Hindi version since April 2018. “[With time] we want all the online knowledge in Hindi to be somehow connected with Quora,” says Shewakramani.

For the California-based startup, which has more than 200 million unique visitors per month, India is an important market. According to Alexa, which tracks website traffic, India accounts for 17.1% of Quora’s total traffic. It sees the most traffic from the U.S.

“The answer to the same question in Hindi and English will be different,” he points out.

There is currently no plan to monetise Quora Hindi. The focus now is on maintaining quality and credibility of information shared on the platform," Shewakramani said.
