Automobile major Toyota Kirloskar Motor will be investing ₹3,300 crore to set up its third manufacturing plant in Karnataka. The manufacturing plant, which will be set up at Bidadi near Bengaluru, is likely to commence production in 2026. On Tuesday, the Japanese automaker signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka government to enhance its existing operations in the country through fresh investments. Toyota Kirloskar Motor is a joint venture between the Japanese automaker Toyota Group and domestic auto company Kirloskar Group.

According to the Innova and Hilux maker, the new plant will have a manufacturing capacity of one lakh units and will generate employment for 2,000 people. The company’s 1st plant, which is situated in Bidadi, has an installed production capacity of 1,32,000 units. This plant manufactures Innova Hycross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Legender in India.

The company's second plant, which is also situated in Bidadi has an installed production capacity of 2,10,000 units and manufactures Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser, Hyryder and Hilux in India.

For over a decade, TKM has been spearheading the skilling efforts for students from economically challenged backgrounds, enabling them to create world-class skilled technicians and enhancing employability thus making a difference to the surrounding communities and contributing to ‘Skill India’ through its initiatives of Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI) and Toyota Technical Education Program (TTEP)," says Masakazu Yoshimura, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

According to Yoshimura, till now, TTTI has trained approximately 1,000 students from Karnataka and 12,000 students have been trained through TTEP from 63 Institutes across 26 states of India.

The development comes a year after the Japanese automaker along with Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts (TKAP) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Karnataka government to invest ₹4,100 crore in order to cut carbon emission and enhance electrification through green technologies.
