Elegance in simplicity has always defined Rahul Mishra’s design philosophy. Since the beginning of his career, the Indian fashion designer has consistently showcased collections that seamlessly blend refined global minimalism with the richness of India’s craft heritage. On the runway, each of his garments speaks of thoughtful design, meticulous execution, and a subtle yet striking celebration of Indian textiles in truly global formats.
So, when Mishra unveiled his largest retail space at Mumbai’s prestigious Horniman Circle, he ensured the store embodied the very essence of his brand: simplicity rooted in craftsmanship. Every detail -- from the grand entrance doors bearing etchings of his illustrations to the flooring and walls displaying various elements of his couture collections -- echoes the aesthetic values that have become synonymous with his work.

As India continues to be the world’s fastest-growing major economy, Fortune India presents its special issue on the nation’s Top 100 Billionaires. Curated in partnership with Waterfield Advisors, this year’s list reflects a slight decline in the number of dollar billionaires—from 185 to 182—even as the entry threshold for the Top 100 rose to ₹24,283 crore, up from ₹22,739 crore last year. From stalwarts like Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, and the Mistry family, who continue to lead the list, to major gainers such as Sunil Mittal and Kumar Mangalam Birla, the issue goes beyond the numbers to explore the resilience, ambition, and strategic foresight that define India’s wealth creators. Read their compelling stories in the latest issue of Fortune India. On stands now.
“Everything in this store mirrors how I design my collections,” says Mishra. “Thanks to my collaboration with architect and designer Rooshad Shroff, who, after researching for months, thoughtfully translated the spirit of my work into the space. He delved deep into the ethos of my brand and brought that vision to life -- through the floors, ceilings, walls, and even the doors -- so that the entire environment exists in harmony with the collections on display.”
Being one of India’s most internationally celebrated designers, Rahul Mishra has showcased his work in iconic windows such as Colette in Paris and has been a regular at Paris Couture Week for several years, receiving widespread acclaim from critics and global buyers. His innovative use of hand embroidery earned him the prestigious International Woolmark Prize in 2014, recognised for his reinterpretation of merino wool in intricately crafted cocktail dresses.
Maison Rahul Mishra -- his Mumbai flagship -- offers a truly immersive experience. From the hand-etched brass doors featuring his signature illustrations, to motifs of bees, dragonflies, florals, superheroes and custom carpets bearing his motifs, every element is a reflection of his artistry. The store houses his couture lines, bridge collections, and select prêt offerings, all displayed in a calm, intentional layout where design and decor exist in perfect balance.
“Nothing here is placed just to impress,” he explains. “The impression is created by the harmony between the elements. For instance, someone can simply look at a wall and get inspired to customise a couture piece. Every corner of the store offers visual cues -- from swatches and textiles to embroidery samples -- encouraging interaction and personalisation.” Mishra further says everything displayed in the store is not sourced from any where but made from his atelier. “Idea is to showcase our creative spirit all across the store so we made a conscious decision not to source, but to make everything ourselves so that each piece in the store bears the hallmark of our brand.”
For the first time in India, visitors to the store can explore Mishra’s newly launched line of handbags, his latest artistic ventures, and recent runway collections straight from Paris. Spanning 7,500 square feet, Maison Rahul Mishra is more than a store -- it’s a journey through the designer’s world. A space where India’s rich textile heritage meets global couture, and where simplicity is celebrated in its most refined form.
