OTT releases this weekend

Among the biggest digital premieres this week is Welcome To The Jungle. The latest film in the Welcome franchise is a Hindi comedy featuring a large ensemble cast. The story combines mistaken identities, action, chaos and slapstick humour as the characters find themselves caught in a dangerous situation. Welcome To The Jungle premieres on JioHotstar on August 21.

Fans of action series can catch Outer Banks Season 5, the fifth and final season of the adventure drama. The Pogues’ treasure-hunting journey comes to an end as John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, Cleo and their friends embark on one final high-stakes adventure. Outer Banks Season 5 released on Netflix on August 20.

Blood Sacrifice, which premiered on Netflix on August 20, is a Swedish crime thriller centred on investigator Thomas, who is forced to team up with his estranged father Alfred, a former detective. As the two investigate a series of brutal killings targeting police officers, they must also confront the troubled relationship between them.

Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing, released on Netflix on August 19, takes a closer look at Boeing’s troubled history, examining concerns around corporate culture, safety practices and whistleblower experiences. Directed by Rory Kennedy, the documentary revisits the controversies surrounding the 737 MAX crashes and the 2024 Alaska Airlines door-plug incident.

Pyaar Prema Kalyanam, which arrives on Netflix on August 21, is a Tamil romantic family entertainer directed by and starring Elan, with Saanvee Meghana playing Pavi, a popular influencer who refuses to leave her family home after marriage. Her husband instead moves in with her family, setting the stage for humorous situations, family clashes and a fresh take on marriage and relationships.

Love Is Blind: UK Season 3 returns with 30 singles hoping to find love without seeing each other. Contestants form emotional connections in pods before getting engaged and meeting face-to-face. Emma and Matt Willis return as hosts. Season 3 premiered on Netflix on August 19.

Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter, directed by Jason Hehir, charts Novak Djokovic’s journey from war-torn Serbia to the top of men’s tennis. The feature documentary also includes interviews with several of his biggest rivals and peers. It released on Prime Video on August 20.

A Beautiful Obsession, a four-part series directed by Kevin Macdonald, follows Pep Guardiola’s final chapter at Manchester City. With the club facing a turbulent period after a string of defeats, the series goes behind the scenes of a team dealing with departures, internal tensions and the pressure to rebuild. It releases on Prime Video on August 21.

In theatres this weekend

Leading this week's theatrical releases is Insidious: Out of the Further, another chapter in the supernatural horror franchise. The film centres on Gemma, a young mother who discovers that she can enter The Further. When a sinister force targets her daughter, this unusual ability may be her only chance of fighting back. Insidious: Out of the Further releases in cinemas on August 21.

Jason Statham returns with Mutiny, releasing in theatres on August 21, as Cole Reed, a man who witnesses the murder of his billionaire employer and is subsequently framed for the crime. Determined to uncover the truth and clear his name, Reed is drawn into an international conspiracy that takes him aboard a cargo ship.

Tony, which hits theatres on August 21, stars Dominic Sessa as a young Anthony Bourdain. Set during the chef and writer’s early years, the film follows 19-year-old Tony as he arrives in Provincetown and finds himself drawn into the unpredictable, high-pressure world of a restaurant kitchen.

One Night Only, arriving in cinemas on August 21, is a romantic comedy starring Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner. The film centres on pizza shop owner Owen and aspiring singer Allie, who find themselves navigating an unusual annual 12-hour period during which premarital sex is permitted in the US.

7 Dogs, also releasing in theatres on August 21, is an action thriller featuring Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt in a story involving an international crime syndicate and a dangerous narcotic that threatens to spread across the Middle East.
