Speaking at the inauguration of the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 on January 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed India’s automobile industry as "fantastic and future-ready," driven by surging demand and the aspirations of the youth.

“It is the energy and ambitions of young Indians that have powered the auto sector’s robust growth, which has expanded by 12% in recent years,” he said.

The five-day Bharat Mobility Global Expo, India’s largest mobility event, is set to feature over 100 new launches spanning automobiles, components, and cutting-edge technologies.

"Last year, the expo saw participation from over 800 exhibitors and drew more than 1.5 lakh visitors. This time, it is being hosted not just at Bharat Mandapam but also at Dwarka’s Yashobhoomi and Greater Noida’s India Expo Centre,” Modi noted.

While India is the world’s fifth-largest economy, it has become the third-largest market for passenger vehicle sales.

“So many cars are being sold today that their numbers exceed the population of several countries. The sale of 2.5 crore cars reflects the rising demand for vehicles,” the PM said.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to infrastructure, he pointed out that the last Budget allocated over ₹11 lakh crore for its development. Investments under the Make in India initiative, combined with multimodal connectivity, have further propelled growth in the auto sector, especially in the affordable segment.

“In the past, poor road quality discouraged car buyers, but that is changing. Enhancing ease of travel is a national priority,” Modi asserted.

Prime Minister Modi also paid tribute to industry stalwarts Ratan Tata and Osamu Suzuki, acknowledging their contributions to shaping India’s auto sector and fulfilling the middle-class dream of car ownership.

“Their legacy will continue to inspire the mobility sector,” he said.

Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goyal, Hardeep Singh Puri, H.D. Kumaraswamy, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Manohar Lal attended the inauguration alongside key auto industry leaders.
