The auto sector recorded sustained recovery and growth in demand amid the festival season, with India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki Ltd selling a total of 1,32,395 passenger vehicles in the domestic market in November 2022, compared to 1,09,726 sold in November 2021, a 20.6% rise YoY, the company said today. The total domestic sales, including light commercial vehicles, stood at 1,35,055 in November 2022. This is a 19.4% growth over 1,13,017 units sold a year ago.

Sales to original equipment manufacturers (OEM) stood at 4,251 in November 2022 compared to 4,774 in the year-ago period. With this, the cumulative domestic sales stood at 1,39,306 in the said month, compared to 1,17,791 in November 2021. Maruti exported 19,738 vehicles in November 2022 as compared to 21,393 in the same period last year.

The total sales of the company stood at 1,59,044 units as compared to 1,39,184 units sold in November 2021, recording a 14.2% rise YoY.

South Korean auto giant Hyundai sold 48,003 units in the domestic market in November, up 29.7% over the 37,001 units sold last year. Its exports jumped 61.5% as the company shipped 16,001 units vs 9,909 units in November last year. With this, its cumulative sales stood at 64,004 units for November 2022. “On the back of a strong festive season, we have achieved a high double-digit growth in domestic sales in the last couple of months when compared to the same period last year,” said Tarun Garg, director (sales, marketing & service), Hyundai Motor India.

Auto giant Tata Motors sold 46,425 units in the passenger vehicles category, including electric vehicles, a growth of 55% in November, as compared to 29,947 units sold in the year-ago period.

Tata Motors Ltd's cumulative sales in the domestic and international market for November 2022 stood at 75,478 vehicles, as compared to 62,192 units during November 2021. Tata Motor's domestic sales surged 27% year-on-year to 73,467 in the month as compared to 58,073 in the year-ago period. Of all the commercial category verticals, Tata Motor's only two verticals -- passenger carriers and medium & heavy commercial vehicle segments -- registered positive growth in the quarter at 73% and 42%, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra sold 30,392 vehicles in the PV segment in November 2022. This included utility vehicles, cars and vans. M&M sold 30,238 SUVs in November, registering a growth of 56%. It also registered a strong growth of 31% in commercial vehicles. However, the supply chain situation continues to be dynamic due to continuing international disruptions, says Veejay Nakra, president of the automotive division,of M&M. Overall, M&M sold 58,303 vehicles, a 45% growth over November 2021.

Hyundai’s subsidiary Kia Corporation’s Kia India registered 24,025 unit sales in November 2022, its third-best sales performance to date. It recorded a growth of 69% on a YoY basis, as the carmaker sold 14,214 units in the corresponding month last year. The Seltos led the sales chart for Kia, with 9,284 vehicles dispatched in the previous month. Japanese auto giant Toyota's India unit Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) recorded the sale of 11,765 units in November, which is a 9.5% decline from the year-ago period. On a month-on-month basis, TKM's sales dipped 10.4%, as the company stopped bookings of the diesel variant of Innova Crysta.
