As a mark of respect to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Government of India has announced a seven day of state mourning throughout India from December 26, 2024, to January 1, 2025, both days inclusive.

During this period the national flag will be flown at half-mast throughout India where it is regularly flown and there will be no official entertainment during the period of state mourning.

It has also been decided that the state funeral will be accorded to late Manmohan Singh.

Singh has often been called the architect of India's economic liberalisation. During his tenure as the finance minister, Singh ended the Licence Raj in his 1991-92 Budget. He also played a key role in setting up the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and automating Indian markets to benchmark them with the best in the world.
