Apollo Hospitals Enterprise, India’s largest hospital chain, is deploying artificial intelligence (AI) in a big way to smoothen processes. Over the next couple of years, it plans to add another 2,000 beds to the existing 10,000-plus beds across 73 hospitals, and a Proton Cancer Centre in either Hyderabad or Delhi, in addition to the one in Chennai. Apollo Hospitals is driven by the four daughters of promoter Prathap C. Reddy. “We use AI in many processes,” says Sangita Reddy, joint MD. “On the outsourcing side, 83% is completely digital, and 76% is looking at AI-enabled intelligence. This is a revalidation of the prescription issued by the doctor.” Revenues in FY24 were 15.9% over that recorded on a consolidated basis in FY23. “Our volumes have grown. We have been moving closer to the consumer—be it primary care, secondary care, day care or diagnostics. We have improved the efficiency of this network over time. It is a key differentiator,” says Suneeta Reddy, MD. “We are working with research institutes to see how we can participate in their research, whether it is drug discovery, or innovation,” adds Preetha Reddy, executive vice chairperson. The hospital chain has also scaled Apollo 24/7 to make it the largest omnichannel digital healthcare company in India, with over 14 million users.
