Samsung held its first Galaxy Unpacked for 2025 at San Jose, California, and as expected, the S25 flagship series of smartphones were introduced. On the surface, the changes seem slight. On the inside, however, the upgraded processor, Snapdragon 8 Elite, and refreshed components take last year’s debut of ‘Galaxy AI’ a step forward, demonstrating how Google Gemini will be a super-assistant.
Samsung’s President and Head of the Mobile Experience, T.M. Roh, kicked off the Galaxy Unpacked event with Galaxy AI, emphasising that going forward, this will be the way mobiles are used. It is with this thought that the company’s operating system, One UI 7, has been built, which, together with Google’s AI, will reshape Android, he said. “One UI 7, our most personalised interface, redefines mobile interactions because we integrated AI agents deep at the system level,” he said at the event. “Our goal is to provide personalised experiences by integrating AI agents and multimodal capabilities into every touch point of the interface, regardless of which agent or app you use…”
Google Gemini is at the heart of this and now comes up with a press of the power button. Users will get call transcripts, advanced Circle to Search with suggested actions, and personal briefings for the day. Samsung executives and partners demonstrated examples of how Advanced Gemini AI interactions will look in the near future. Screen sharing and live video will enable a user to share the present moment with Gemini and get advice, information and help. One will be able to get everyday help even on tasks such as choosing what combination of clothes to wear. In the coming months, Gemini will be able to take action on the user’s behalf. The data generated from these interactions, Samsung promises, will be privacy protected. A Personal Data Engine will however organise information into a knowledge graph and use it to anticipate your needs, making it more ‘intuitive’.
Against this backdrop, the new S25 flagships—the S25, the S25 Plus and the S25 Ultra—were revealed. A future S25 Edge was also teased, though there are no details on where and when it will launch. The S25 phones look almost identical to the previous generation, but with somewhat rounded corners to make the devices more comfortable to hold. The build is thinner, with barely visible bezels, the glint of titanium, and models in varying blue colourways.
Hardware changes on the inside include the new 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite, and enhancements to the S25 Ultra’s camera such as a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens. The 5,000mAh battery comes with 30-minute charging (with a 45W charger).
