US-based electronics manufacturing services provider Jabil on Wednesday inaugurated its advanced manufacturing facility in Pune, a ₹1,500-crore project that is expected to create up to 11,000 jobs and strengthen India's ambitions to become a global hub for AI infrastructure and next-generation electronics manufacturing.

The facility, located at Ranjangaon near Pune, will manufacture AI-enabled data centre equipment, 5G systems, advanced networking gear and industrial power electronics for both domestic and export markets. The project is among the latest large-scale investments aimed at expanding India's role in global technology supply chains beyond smartphone assembly into higher-value electronics segments.

AI data centres emerge as the next manufacturing opportunity

Inaugurating the facility alongside Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said AI data centres have become one of the fastest-growing technology infrastructure segments globally, creating a significant opportunity for India to build domestic manufacturing capabilities around the ecosystem.

"AI data centres have become a very large growth engine across the world today," Vaishnaw said, adding that India must ensure critical electronic components powering such infrastructure are manufactured within the country under the Make in India programme.

The minister said the Pune facility would manufacture key components required for modern AI-driven data centres while serving global export markets.

Electronics exports gain scale

The investment comes as India's electronics manufacturing sector reaches an estimated value of ₹13 lakh crore, supported by production-linked incentives, supply chain localisation and rising global demand for India-made electronics.

According to the government, electronics became India's third-largest export category in 2025 after steadily climbing the export rankings over the past several years. Policymakers are now targeting a further rise in the sector's contribution to exports through greater localisation of components and stronger integration of domestic suppliers.

Jabil's Pune unit is expected to play a role in that effort by linking Indian MSMEs and component manufacturers with global technology supply chains, while expanding the country's capabilities in AI systems, networking hardware and telecom infrastructure equipment.
