IMD predicts 'normal' monsoon despite likely El Niño
El Niño conditions are likely to develop over the equatorial Pacific Ocean, says IMD.
El Niño conditions are likely to develop over the equatorial Pacific Ocean, says IMD.
Monsoon is likely to hit Kerala on June 4, says IMD
The agency's observations come a day after private weather forecaster Skymet predicted a 'below normal' rainy season this monsoon.
Likelihood of El Nino is increasing and its probability to become a dominant category during the monsoon is growing large, says Skymet.
In June, normal or above normal rainfall is most likely over many parts of northwest and central India, northern parts of south peninsula and some parts of east India.
India receives about 75% of its annual rainfall during the southwest monsoon season.
The sea surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific are likely to rise soon and the probability of continued La Nina will fall, says Skymet.
