Just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump’s ‘good friend’ remarks, PM Narendra Modi reposted the quote, calling India and the U.S. close friends and natural partners, in a post on X on Wednesday morning.
“India and the US are close friends and natural partners. We will work together to secure a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people,” PM Modi wrote in his post on X.
PM Modi also shared updates on the trade negotiations with the U.S. He said he will be speaking to Donald Trump soon but, did not indicate any timeline for the call with the U.S. president. For him, bilateral trade between India and the U.S. will unlock the ‘limitless potential’ of the partnership between the two nations.

2025 is shaping up to be the year of electric car sales. In a first, India’s electric vehicles (EV) industry crossed the sales milestone of 100,000 units in FY25, fuelled by a slew of launches by major players, including Tata Motors, M&M, Ashok Leyland, JSW MG Motor, Hyundai, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. The issue also looks at the challenges ahead for Tata Sons chairman N. Chandrasekaran in his third term, and India’s possible responses to U.S. president Donald Trump’s 50% tariff on Indian goods. “I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-US partnership. Our teams are working to conclude these discussions at the earliest. I am also looking forward to speaking with President Trump,” he added.
These statements come in a response to Trump’s recent remarks posted on his social media platform Truth Social, revealing that the India-U.S. trade talks are continuing and a possible bilateral trade deal to ‘address the trade barriers’ between the two nations is likely to be concluded successfully.
“I am pleased to announce that India, and the United States of America, are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations,” Trump wrote in his post on Wednesday, sharing the status of India-U.S. bilateral talks.
In his post, Trump had called PM Modi a ‘good friend’ of his and said that ‘a successful conclusion’ will be coming soon without any ‘difficulty.’
“I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the upcoming weeks. I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our Great Countries,” Trump added.
In recent days, India-U.S. friendship has hit several roadblocks. Just recently, Trump had posted a picture on Truth Social of India’s PM Modi with Russian and Chinese presidents, calling that ‘we have lost India to the darkest China.’ India-U.S. trade talks had hit a rock bottom in August when Indian exports to the U.S. were forced to pay a tariff rate of 50%, and unlike China, these goods had started facing the revised tariff rate from August 27.
However, following his ‘darkest China’ post, a few days back, Trump had retracted his statement and called PM Modi a friend.
To which, PM Modi responded in a post on X saying, “deeply appreciate and fully reciprocate President Trump's sentiments and positive assessment of our ties. India and the US have a very positive and forward-looking Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership.”
Following this post, it may be expected that the two countries’ delegation may meet soon in the coming days to arrive at a conclusion on the trade deal.
