Kia India has introduced the updated Syros MY26 with a starting price of ₹8.39 lakh (ex-showroom), recalibrating its variant mix and transmission options as competition intensifies in India’s compact SUV segment.

The update centres on a broader trim structure, with four new variants—HTE, HTE(O), HTK+(O) and HTX(O)—aimed at widening the entry and mid-range price bands. The move comes as automakers increasingly rely on variant engineering and feature redistribution to sustain volumes in a segment marked by high price sensitivity and rising feature expectations.

“Customer insights have guided the Syros MY26 evolution, with a revised trim and feature lineup aimed at delivering more value and wider choice,” said Atul Sood, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing.

Diesel-automatic availability widened

A key change in the MY26 lineup is the extension of diesel-automatic options to lower trims. The 1.5-litre diesel automatic is now offered from the HTK+ variant onwards, priced at ₹12.73 lakh, compared with earlier availability limited to higher trims. This aligns with a broader industry trend of improving accessibility of automatic transmissions amid shifting urban demand.

The model continues with multiple powertrain configurations, including a 1.0-litre petrol engine paired with manual and dual-clutch automatic options, and a diesel engine with both manual and automatic gearboxes. The top-end variants are priced up to ₹15.79 lakh.

Feature redistribution across price points

Rather than introducing entirely new features, the update focuses on distributing existing equipment more widely across variants. The model continues to offer a large-format infotainment interface, connected car technology with over-the-air updates, and a suite of safety features, including a five-star Bharat NCAP rating.

The company has also introduced incremental design changes, including revised bumpers, updated alloy wheel designs and additional colour options, largely aimed at maintaining product freshness without a full model overhaul.

Segment positioning and market context

The compact SUV segment—one of the largest in India’s passenger vehicle market—has seen sustained competition from both legacy players and new entrants.

Kia India affirmed that it has been sharpening its portfolio strategy in this segment through periodic updates rather than full model changes, a tactic that helps manage costs while sustaining showroom traction.

The company has cumulatively dispatched around 1.5 million units from its India operations since 2019, including exports, as it continues to scale presence in the domestic market.
