Orders from nine state transport bodies will be executed in phases as states expand public transport fleets and upgrade bus infrastructure

India’s largest commercial vehicle maker Tata Motors has secured cumulative orders for more than 5,000 buses and bus chassis from multiple state transport undertakings (STUs), strengthening its presence in the country’s public mobility segment.
The orders were awarded through a competitive e-bidding process under the government’s procurement system and will be executed in phases as per agreements with the respective state transport bodies.
The orders have been placed by several STUs including Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation, Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation, North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation, Bihar State Road Transport Corporation, Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation, Kerala State Road Transport Corporation, Haryana Roadways, and Chandigarh Transport Undertaking.
Industry observers say the order wins underline the continuing demand for large bus fleets by state transport undertakings as they modernise public transport infrastructure and expand connectivity across urban and rural regions.
“These orders from multiple STUs reflect the trust placed in our mobility solutions,” said Anand S., Vice President and Head of Commercial Passenger Vehicle Business at Tata Motors. “Our buses are designed to deliver reliability and operational efficiency across varied operating conditions while enabling transport undertakings to serve millions of passengers every day.”
The orders span several models from Tata Motors’ commercial passenger vehicle portfolio, including the Tata Magna, Tata Cityride, Tata Starbus, Tata Starbus Prime, and bus chassis such as Tata LPO 1618, Tata LPO 1622, and Tata LPO 1822.
These buses are expected to be deployed across intercity, long-haul and intracity routes, depending on the operational needs of the respective state transport agencies.
Tata Motors has long supplied buses to STUs, private fleet operators and institutional customers across India. Its passenger mobility portfolio spans vehicles ranging from 9-seater vans to 55-seater buses, catering to diverse transport requirements across the country.
The company’s service network and lifecycle support programmes are aimed at ensuring fleet uptime and maintenance support for operators, particularly for large public transport fleets operating across varied geographies.
