Speaking at the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi remotely inaugurated the Kharkhoda vehicle manufacturing facility, Suzuki stated that the ambitious expansion is a reflection of the deepening India-Japan economic partnership and the success of the Make in India initiative.

"From current capacity of half a million units, the plant will be further scaled to one million (10 lakh) units, making it one of the largest car plants of the world," Suzuki said. "It is a testament to the success of India-Japan partnership and Make in India initiative. With favourable policy environment under Prime Minister Mr. Modi's leadership, Suzuki is accelerating investments, employment, exports and technologies towards Viksit Bharat journey."

Kharkhoda emerges as Suzuki's next manufacturing powerhouse

The Kharkhoda facility is central to Maruti Suzuki India's long-term manufacturing expansion strategy. Commercial production at the first plant commenced in February 2025 with an annual production capacity of 250,000 vehicles. Earlier this year, the company commissioned a second production line with an identical capacity, taking the site's installed production capability to 500,000 vehicles annually.

The latest expansion plan will double that capacity to 10 lakh vehicles in phases, making the Haryana facility one of the largest automobile manufacturing complexes not only in India but also across Suzuki's global production network.

With the commissioning of the second production line, Maruti Suzuki India's total annual production capacity has risen to around 20,65,000 units of passenger vehicles across its manufacturing facilities in Gurugram, Manesar, Kharkhoda and Hansalpur in Gujarat.

India-Japan partnership drives Suzuki's long-term growth strategy

Describing the Kharkhoda project as a symbol of the growing strategic and economic partnership between India and Japan, Suzuki said India's favourable policy ecosystem has strengthened the company's confidence to expand investments while generating employment, boosting exports and introducing advanced manufacturing technologies.

The inauguration of the facility during the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum highlights the expanding industrial collaboration between the two countries. As Maruti Suzuki continues to scale up domestic production to cater to rising demand and export opportunities, the Kharkhoda expansion is expected to further reinforce India's position as a global automotive manufacturing powerhouse while contributing to the country's Viksit Bharat vision, according to the company.
