India’s vehicle market continued to show strong regional patterns in the third quarter of FY26, with the western states emerging as a clear powerhouse across segments. Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) released Q3FY2026 data, which shows that while demand remains broad-based, a handful of states continue to anchor volumes in passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and commercial vehicles. In comparison to the previous quarter, Q3FY2026 has posted increase in sales on a QoQ basis.
Passenger vehicle (PV) sales touched 12.76 lakh units during the quarter. The western zone accounted for the highest share at 4.21 lakh units, underlining the region’s continued consumption strength. At the state level, Maharashtra led the country with 1.58 lakh units sold in Q3 FY26. Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu followed it.
A reading of the charts shows that in passenger vehicles, the smallest individual shares came from Bihar (2.1%), Andhra Pradesh (2.4%) and West Bengal (2.7%).
Two-wheelers, the largest segment by volume, saw 56.96 lakh units sold during the quarter. Once again, the western zone led regionally with 19.06 lakh units. Uttar Pradesh emerged as the single-largest state market, recording 8.62 lakh units. Maharashtra followed, along with Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Bihar.
The lower end of the distribution was occupied by Chhattisgarh (2.6%), Punjab (2.9%) and Andhra Pradesh (2.9%).
Three-wheeler sales stood at 2.15 lakh units in Q3 FY26. The western zone again led with 0.68 lakh units. Gujarat recorded the highest sales at 0.25 lakh units, followed by Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Bihar.
West Bengal (2.4%), Jharkhand (2.8%) and Odisha (3.0%) were at the bottom among the listed states in terms of three-wheeler sales.
Commercial vehicle (CV) sales totalled 2.90 lakh units during the quarter. The western zone accounted for 1.11 lakh units, maintaining its lead across categories. Maharashtra topped the segment with 0.46 lakh units sold, followed by Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh (2.6%) and Odisha (3.0%) featured among the lowest contributors, with Kerala and Andhra Pradesh just above them at slightly over 3% each.
