Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. (SMIPL) on Tuesday unveiled the second-generation Burgman Street scooter in India, marking the model’s first significant upgrade since its 2018 introduction and sharpening its play in the premium 125cc segment.

The updated Burgman Street is priced at ₹1,01,944 for the Ride Connect Edition and ₹1,13,220 for the TFT variant (ex-showroom Delhi), with market availability from April 8.

SMIPL Managing Director Kenichi Umeda said the model has built a distinct position in the segment, with volumes doubling over the past three years. He added that the new version focuses on incremental improvements in design, comfort and overall riding experience.

Product refresh anchors strategy

The new Burgman Street continues with a 124cc, single-cylinder engine delivering 6.2 kW of power and 10.2 Nm of torque, with calibration focused on improved low- and mid-range performance.

Updates include a TFT display and keyless system on the top variant, along with expanded 24.6-litre underseat storage, a USB charging port, and revised LED lighting. The scooter also features a reworked chassis setup, tuned suspension and a 5.5-litre fuel tank.

Deepak Mutreja, Vice President – Sales & Marketing, stated that the company has already implemented selective price increases and may consider further calibrated hikes to offset input cost pressures, while balancing demand sensitivity.

Demand outlook turns cautious

The launch comes amid emerging macro headwinds. “This West Asia crisis, definitely, no one is insulated,” added Mutreja, pointing to inflationary pressures arising from supply disruptions, including LPG shortages.

He emphasised that affordability remains central to the two-wheeler market. “The moment inflation happens… footfalls fall,” Mutreja said, adding that while demand momentum was expected to continue, the company is now closely monitoring the situation and refraining from firm near-term projections.

SMIPL reported its highest-ever annual sales of 14,39,415 units in FY26, a 15% increase over the previous year, but indicated that volatility in fuel and commodity prices could impact growth visibility going forward. (With inputs from PTI)
