Maruti Suzuki India , the country’s largest carmaker, has launched its first electric vehicle, the e VITARA Born EV, marking the auto major’s formal entry into the EV segment. The mid-size electric SUV, which competes with Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV, and VinFast VF6, delivers a claimed driving range of up to 543 km, placing it among the longest-range EVs in India.
The bookings for the Maruti Suzuki e VITARA will begin in January 2026, alongside its Japan debut, with an estimated price range of ₹17 lakh to ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Official pricing will be announced closer to the launch date early next year.
Ahead of the launch, the e VITARA received a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, after the company voluntarily participated in the assessment.
The ‘Made-in-India, Made-for-the-World’ e VITARA is built on Suzuki’s all-new HEARTECT-e platform, designed exclusively for electric vehicles to provide exceptional strength, structural rigidity, and advanced high-voltage protection. Powered by 49kWh and 61kWh battery options, the e VITARA delivers superior performance, strong range, high comfort, and global safety standards, according to the press release.

We have established a robust network of over 2,000 Maruti Suzuki exclusive charging points across our sales and service network, spanning more than 1,100 cities,” said Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki.
He added that the company has collaborated with 13 charge point operators to offer access to a vast charging infrastructure across the country, aiming to enable a network of over 1 lakh charging points by 2030. “Aligned with Suzuki’s global vision, we plan to introduce multiple EVs and, to support this, our aim is to enable a network of over 1 lakh charging points across India by 2030, along with our dealer and CPO partners.”

Leveraging India’s largest dealer network and its charging partners’ network, the company is ensuring that EV charging points are available at an average distance of 5–10 kilometres at key locations in the top 100 cities of India, he said.
Banerjee further added that DC fast chargers are located at regular intervals along key highways to enable nationwide driving freedom for prospective EV customers. To further enhance peace of mind, the auto major has deployed a 1.5 lakh-strong, specially trained EV workforce to cater to customer needs. It has also activated 1,500+ EV-ready service workshops across 1,100 cities to meet after-sales requirements and support EV ownership across the country.
“Words aside, we are showcasing the prowess of this platform by flagging off a radical ‘e drive’ that will demonstrate the real-world efficacy of Maruti Suzuki’s comprehensive EV charging network. With the ‘e drive’, we aim to boost user confidence and accelerate EV adoption, working alongside the nation’s sustainability goals for net zero,” Banerjee added.
Positioned as a globally benchmarked EV, the Made-in-India e VITARA has undergone 1 crore km of testing across varied terrains. The company has also implemented a robust EV ecosystem that has enabled its showroom network and more than 1,500 service workshops to become EV-ready, providing an enhanced EV ownership experience supported by a 1.5 lakh-strong EV-ready workforce.
