Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) on Thursday said cumulative production of the WagonR has crossed 35 lakh units, making it one of the few passenger vehicle models in India to achieve the milestone.

Launched in December 1999, the WagonR has been produced across three generations and now joins Maruti Suzuki models such as the Alto and Swift in crossing the 35-lakh production mark. The WagonR is currently manufactured at the company’s Gurgaon and Manesar plants in Haryana.

“This achievement is not just a production milestone, but reflects the enduring love and confidence that generations of customers have shown towards the WagonR brand,” said Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, MSIL.

The WagonR, a popular “tall-boy” hatchback known for its spacious cabin, fuel efficiency and low maintenance costs, is available in 11 variants across LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi+ trims, with prices ranging from approximately ₹4.99 lakh to ₹6.95 lakh (ex-showroom).

Takeuchi added that the WagonR has continued to evolve with new technology and features while retaining its core strengths, including its tall-boy design, spacious interiors and fuel efficiency.

“It is rare for a vehicle to receive such acceptance even after 25 years since its launch. The WagonR has kept evolving with the introduction of new technology and features over time, while retaining its original DNA,” he said.

Maruti Suzuki said the WagonR has been India’s highest-selling car for the past four financial years, underscoring its sustained popularity in the domestic passenger vehicle market.

In the first half (H1) of FY2025–26 and FY2024–25, the WagonR contributed around 8–8.5% of Maruti Suzuki’s total domestic sales. It was India’s top-selling car for four consecutive fiscal years ending FY25, with annual sales of 1,98,451 units.

Globally, the Suzuki WagonR was first introduced in Japan in September 1993 as a semi-bonnet-style mini wagon. The model is manufactured in Japan, India, Hungary and Indonesia, and is sold in more than 75 countries and regions, including Japan, India and Europe. In August 2025, global cumulative sales of the WagonR crossed one crore units, the company said.

In India, the WagonR has evolved in line with changing customer expectations while maintaining its focus on space and comfort. The latest generation is built on Suzuki’s fifth-generation HEARTECT platform and comes with six airbags as standard, along with safety features such as ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP).

The model also offers comfort and convenience features, including a 7-inch SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity and voice commands.
