Tata Motors on Sunday said it has secured more than 3,400 electric commercial vehicle (eCV) orders across the freight, logistics, and passenger mobility segments. The auto major said in an exchange filing that this marks a significant milestone in the adoption of electric mobility solutions in India's commercial vehicle market.

The orders comprise around 2,000 small commercial vehicles (SCVs) and pick-ups, about 900 trucks, and nearly 500 buses, the company said. These vehicles will be deployed across a wide range of applications, including e-commerce, logistics, FMCG and FMCD distribution, intra-city mobility, and sectors such as cement, steel, mining, and airport tarmac operations.

Announcing the development, the company said the order book reflects growing customer confidence in electric mobility solutions and signals a shift from pilot projects to large-scale deployment across commercial applications.

“This wide-ranging deployment underscores growing customer confidence in electric mobility solutions under real-world conditions and strengthens Tata Motors’ leadership in advancing India’s zero-emission commercial mobility agenda,” the release said.

“Electric mobility in commercial vehicles is shifting from early adoption to large-scale deployment in India, with usage expanding across segments and real-world applications,” Tata Motors said.

The country's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer said it continues to lead the transition with one of the widest portfolios of electric commercial vehicles, supported by an ecosystem focused on charging infrastructure, financing, fleet management, and uptime support.

“Beyond vehicles, the company is partnering closely with fleet owners and customers to optimise performance, uptime, charging, and financing throughout the vehicle lifecycle,” the company said.

Over the past year, Tata Motors has expanded its electric commercial vehicle portfolio with products designed for different operating conditions and duty cycles. The range includes the Ace Pro EV, Ace EV, and Intra EV in the small commercial vehicle segment, the Ultra EV range in the 7-12 tonne category, and the Prima EV 55T tractor and Prima EV 28T tipper for heavier-duty freight operations, the release noted.

In passenger transportation, the company offers the Starbus EV and Ultra EV bus platforms for both intra-city and inter-city mobility requirements.

Tata Motors said its experience in electric mobility is backed by a sizeable fleet already in operation. The company currently has more than 3,800 electric buses running across multiple cities, collectively covering over 55 crore kilometres. In addition, over 17,000 Tata electric SCVs are operating across the country.

"This progress builds on deep operational experience and sustained investments in electric mobility," the company said, adding that insights gathered from real-world operations are helping improve reliability, efficiency, and lifecycle performance.

To support adoption at scale, Tata Motors has also developed an ecosystem that includes partnerships with more than 14 charge point operators, EV-focused financing solutions through banks and non-banking financial companies, fleet management through its Fleet Edge platform, and uptime assurance programmes.

"As adoption of electric commercial vehicles deepens, Tata Motors remains focused on delivering customised, end-to-end solutions that enable customers to transition confidently and seamlessly to zero-emission mobility," the company said.
