Tata Motors PV rolls out Aeris at ₹5.29 lakh, bookings open for new compact sedan

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles ( TMPV) on Friday launched the Aeris in India at an introductory price of ₹5.29 lakh (ex-showroom), replacing the Tigor in the automaker’s compact sedan portfolio. The company has also opened bookings for the new model as it seeks to strengthen its presence in a segment that continues to face competition from compact SUVs and established sedan offerings.
The Aeris will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze. Its launch comes as Tata Motors continues to refresh its passenger vehicle range, with the company using new nameplates and updated products to maintain its presence across key price segments.
Petrol and CNG powertrains
The Aeris is being offered with petrol and CNG powertrain options, giving Tata Motors a presence across two fuel categories in the compact sedan segment. The petrol version is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine and is available with manual and automated manual transmission options.
The CNG variant extends Tata Motors’ factory-fitted CNG portfolio, a segment that has gained relevance as automakers look to cater to demand for lower running costs while continuing to sell internal-combustion vehicles.
New product strategy
The Aeris represents a significant update over the outgoing Tigor, with changes to its exterior and cabin along with revisions to its technology and equipment package.
For Tata Motors, the launch is also part of a wider product strategy that spans internal-combustion engines, CNG and electric vehicles. The company has been expanding and updating its portfolio across segments as the Indian passenger vehicle market undergoes a gradual shift towards SUVs and alternative powertrains.
Bookings kick off
With bookings now open, the Aeris will enter the market ahead of the festive selling period, when passenger vehicle manufacturers typically see increased retail activity.
The starting price of ₹5.29 lakh places the new sedan in the entry-level portion of the compact car market, while its petrol and CNG variants allow Tata Motors to address different demand segments.
According to Punnet Gupta, Director, S&P Global Mobility, "The Aeris will be an important test of Tata Motors’ ability to retain volumes in the compact sedan category while competing against models with established customer bases."
