Tata Motors has launched the 2026 facelift of the Tiago hatchback in India at an introductory ex-showroom price of ₹4.69 lakh, sharpening its positioning in the entry-level passenger vehicle segment at a time when small-car demand remains under pressure. The update spans petrol, CNG and electric variants, reflecting the company’s broader strategy of maintaining relevance across multiple powertrain formats within a single product architecture.

The Tiago facelift marks the model’s second major update since its launch and arrives amid sustained competition in the sub-₹7 lakh hatchback market dominated by Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. Tata Motors has also repositioned the Tiago EV under a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) structure, lowering the upfront acquisition cost to ₹4.69 lakh with an additional battery usage charge of ₹2.6 per kilometre.

The company claimed that the Tiago and Tiago.ev are built on a “shared promise of value” while targeting distinct customer cohorts. Shailesh Chandra, managing director and chief executive officer of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV), said hatchbacks had “received scarce attention from the industry” despite remaining the “gateway to personal mobility for millions of Indian families”.

“The Next Gen Tiago is not an evolution but a full reinvention,” Chandra said, adding that the model brings features previously limited to premium segments into the entry hatchback category. On the EV strategy, he said the Tiago.ev aims to change “the financial logic of EV ownership” through lower running costs, fast charging and a lifetime high-voltage battery warranty on the 24 kWh pack.

Feature and safety expansion

The refreshed Tiago receives a redesigned front fascia, updated LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, connected tail-lamps and new 15-inch alloy wheels. Inside, Tata Motors has introduced a redesigned dashboard with dual digital screens, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, wireless smartphone connectivity and a revised centre console.

Safety equipment has been expanded with a 360-degree surround-view camera, blind-view monitor, electronic stability control, six airbags on the EV variant and traction control systems. The company said the Tiago has also been engineered for double-impact collision performance.

Mechanically, the Tiago continues with the 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 85 bhp and 113 Nm, paired with manual and AMT gearbox options. The CNG version develops 74 bhp and is also offered with both transmission choices.

The Tiago was first launched in 2016 as Tata Motors’ entry hatchback and underwent a comprehensive facelift in 2020. The Tiago EV followed in 2022, emerging as one of the company’s early mass-market electric passenger vehicles and a key contributor to its EV portfolio expansion strategy.
