Volkswagen India will unveil the facelifted version of the Taigun midsize Sport Utility Vehicle on April 9. The revamped Taigun will continue to be assembled at the company’s Chakan facility in Maharashtra, which produces its India 2.0 portfolio.
First introduced in 2021, the Taigun marked Volkswagen’s entry into the mid-size SUV segment under its localisation-led strategy. The upcoming update is expected to bring incremental design and feature changes while retaining existing powertrain options. Industry estimates suggest pricing could remain in the ₹11 lakh to ₹19 lakh (ex-showroom) range.
Speaking on the announcement, Nitin Kohli, Brand Director, Volkswagen India, said the new Taigun represents an evolution of the model, combining a more expressive design with technology and performance upgrades expected by customers. He added that the SUV has been engineered locally and is aimed at delivering a balance of capability and everyday usability.
“The new Taigun will redefine driving dynamism. Engineered locally and crafted with purpose, the new Taigun is built to inspire confidence, capability, and excitement, every single day,” said Kohli
The Taigun operates in the mid-size SUV segment, which has emerged as a key contributor to India’s passenger vehicle market. The category records annual volumes of around 10–12 lakh units and accounts for roughly 25–30% of total PV sales, reflecting a sustained shift towards SUVs.
Key competitors include the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Skoda Kushaq, with the Creta leading the segment.
Volkswagen has indicated that the updated Taigun will feature revised styling, including sharper character lines and a reworked exterior profile, along with upgrades to in-car technology and driving dynamics. Detailed specifications will be announced at launch.
The update comes amid faster refresh cycles in the segment, as automakers respond to rising competition and evolving consumer expectations.
Volkswagen Passenger Cars operates in over 150 markets globally and has been expanding its India portfolio with locally developed models under its India 2.0 strategy. In India, its current line-up includes the Taigun, Virtus sedan and select global imports, with manufacturing anchored at its Chakan facility in Maharashtra.
