The team of Amazon Web Services, led by Sandeep Dutta, is going all in on India’s growth. The team met Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Delhi today and announced a whopping $8.2 billion investment in Maharashtra in the coming years.
The country’s cloud services market, valued at $8.3 billion in 2023, is on a meteoric rise and is projected to reach a staggering $24.2 billion by 2028, according to a report by International Data Corporation.
Vaishnaw further shared that the company sees India as a hotspot for growth and is charging ahead with the latest technologies, including the deployment of its own advanced GPUs (Graphical Processing Unit) and cloud management services in India. “The company is optimistic about the growth in India, they are bringing the latest technologies, deploying their own latest GPUs,” the information technology minister shared.
In addition, they’re rolling out an advanced compute facility and cutting-edge crowd management services in India. Amazon is set to strengthen India’s job market in the coming years by adding a significant number of jobs in India, as revealed by Amazon.

Inspired by Gujarat’s GIFT city, the project was envisioned as Maharashtra’s next big tech hub, with Fadnavis confident that it would attract top tech companies and cultivate a thriving startup ecosystem. Emphasising its significance, he stressed that this initiative is crucial for Maharashtra to retain its dominance in India’s startup landscape, home to over 25,000 startups.
The e-commerce behemoth has cemented its digital footprint in India with two data centres, one in Mumbai, launched in 2016 and another in Hyderabad, which came online in 2022. Last year, Amazon pledged an additional $2 billion to fuel its e-commerce expansion in Asia’s third-largest economy.
