Dhurandhar 2 storms past ₹350 crore in 4 days, sets pace for record-breaking box office run
The film currently holds an IMDb rating of 8.7/10 based on over 18K user votes.

The Hindi film industry may have found its first bona fide blockbuster of 2026. Dhurandhar: The Revenge has raced past ₹354 crore net at the domestic box office within four days of release, according to early trade estimates, signalling a powerful resurgence of event-driven theatrical cinema.

The Aditya Dhar directorial opened to ₹43 crore in paid previews (Day 0), followed by ₹102.55 crore on Day 1, ₹80.72 crore on Day 2, and ₹113 crore on Day 3. As of Day 4 (live), the film has added approximately ₹14.82 crore, taking its cumulative domestic net to around ₹354 crore and gross collections to over ₹420 crore globally. The film currently holds an IMDb rating of 8.7/10 based on over 18K user votes.

While these numbers are still subject to final reconciliation, the trajectory firmly positions the film among the fastest-grossing Hindi releases in recent years.

Is this occupancy-led growth rather than front-loaded hype?

Exhibitors point to strong and sustained occupancy trends rather than a purely front-loaded opening.

“We are extremely encouraged by the strong opening weekend response… with occupancies over 75%,” said Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, executive director at PVR INOX Limited . He added that the film is witnessing consistent traction across key markets, with group bookings—families and friend circles—driving admissions.

The release has also benefited from favourable timing, coinciding with festive periods such as Eid and Gudi Padwa, traditionally strong windows for theatrical consumption.

At Cinépolis India, demand has translated into aggressive programming. “We’ve added shows starting as early as 5 AM, with the last screenings running past 4 AM,” said Ashish Misra, head of Commercialisation. The chain expects to serve over 12 lakh patrons within the first five days.

“Dhurandhar 2 recorded an explosive start, with Day 1 collections crossing ₹100 crore net, including over ₹40 crore from premieres—both record benchmarks. Strong word of mouth helped the film cross ₹200 crore net within two days, while overseas collections pushed worldwide gross beyond ₹350 crore. The extended opening weekend is expected to exceed ₹600 crore net, with demand indicating strong weekday performance despite capacity constraints,” said a Sacnilk spokesperson.

How strong is the global box office momentum?

Internationally, the film has grossed close to ₹100 crore so far, taking its worldwide gross to over ₹420 crore (including India gross) within the opening frame. Trade estimates suggest the extended opening weekend could cross ₹600 crore gross worldwide, although final figures will depend on weekday hold and overseas performance consolidation.

If momentum sustains, the film is expected to surpass the lifetime collections of several recent Hindi hits, including Jawan, Stree 2, and Chhaava. Its long-term ambition—entry into the ₹2,000 crore global club—remains aspirational but highly ambitious, a benchmark currently led by Dangal.

What’s driving content, scale, and star power?

Directed by Aditya Dhar and headlined by Ranveer Singh, the espionage thriller blends franchise recall with high production values and geopolitical storytelling. The ensemble cast—including R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Rampal—has further widened its appeal across demographics.

Trade analysts attribute the film’s strong hold on Day 2 and Day 3 to positive word-of-mouth rather than just opening-day hype—an important signal for long-term box office sustainability.

What does this signal for the industry?

The performance of Dhurandhar 2 reinforces a broader industry trend: large-scale, franchise-driven films continue to anchor theatrical recovery in India.

For multiplex operators, the film has delivered not just footfalls but also higher occupancy across showtimes, including late-night and early-morning slots—indicative of demand outstripping conventional capacity.

The coming weekdays will be critical in determining whether the film can maintain its pace or see the typical post-weekend drop. However, early indicators suggest a relatively stable hold, supported by festive spillover and strong audience reception.

If sustained, Dhurandhar: The Revenge could emerge not just as a commercial success, but as a defining box office story for Bollywood in 2026.
