India’s biggest airline, IndiGo, has reopened its flight bookings and resumed operations starting today, May 12, 2025, progressively on select routes including Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Jammu and Delhi-Amritsar.
Following the government directives after the India-Pakistan ceasefire, the recently closed airports are now available for airline operations.
IndiGo said more flights will resume gradually across its network over the course of the next few days.
The closure of 32 airports amid the India-Pakistan conflict led to the cancellation of over 165 IndiGo flights daily.
This comes after India’s aviation authorities issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to reopen 32 shut airports following the ceasefire with Pakistan.
Air India's low-cost subsidiary Air India Express said it will gradually reinstate flight operations from previously closed airports, following the lifting of NOTAMs by the authorities.
"Starting tomorrow, services will resume on routes including Hindon–Bengaluru, Jammu–Delhi, Jammu–Srinagar, and Srinagar–Delhi. Operations on Hindon–Mumbai are planned to resume the day after," the budget carrier said. The reinstatement of other flights, including international services from Amritsar, is expected to follow from May 15, it added.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and relevant aviation authorities had earlier issued a series of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) announcing the temporary closure of airports across northern and western India for all civil flight operations from May 7, 2025, to May 14, 2025, due to operational reasons.
IndiGo today said it will "progressively commence" operations on the previously closed routes.
“In line with the latest government directives, the airports are open for operations. We will progressively commence operations on the previously closed routes,” the airline said in a post on X.
Reacting to the development, shares of InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, soared as much as by 10% to hit a high of ₹5,599 on the BSE, taking the Gurugram-based airline's market capitalisation to around ₹2.13 lakh crore.
IndiGo said as services gradually return to normalcy, there may still be a few delays and last-minute adjustments. "We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as our teams work diligently to restore seamless operations,” IndiGo said. “We recommend checking your flight status regularly for the latest updates. As always, we will continue to keep you informed through our official channels,” it added. However, the airline will continue to offer free cancellation and date changes for flights operating from the affected airports until May 22.
On Monday, IndiGo also announced new direct flights connecting Abu Dhabi to Visakhapatnam and Bhubaneswar. The flights on Bhubaneswar–Abu Dhabi routes will operate three times a week with effect from June 12, 2025, and between Visakhapatnam - Abu Dhabi four times a week starting June 13, 2025.
