JioHotstar will introduce monthly subscription plans across all its tiers from January 28, 2026, a move aimed at capturing changing viewing habits as more Indians shift to watching content on connected TVs and seek greater flexibility in how they pay for streaming services.
The new structure will allow users to choose monthly, quarterly, or annual plans across its Mobile, Super, and Premium tiers. Prices for monthly plans will start at ₹79 for the Mobile tier, ₹149 for Super, and ₹299 for Premium. The company said existing subscribers will continue on their current plans and prices, provided their auto-renewals remain active.
The rollout comes as large-screen viewing on the platform has grown sharply over the past year, prompting the company to recalibrate its pricing and packaging. JioHotstar said consumption on connected TVs has seen “explosive growth” over the last 11 months, and the updated plans are meant to better serve households that prefer watching on bigger screens.
Sushant Sreeram, head of SVOD Business and chief marketing officer at JioStar, said the changes were designed to match how users’ habits are evolving. “As we continue building India’s most expansive and inclusive entertainment ecosystem it’s important that our subscription choices keep pace with how audiences want to watch,” he said. “This update brings greater flexibility and choice across subscription needs, while supporting long-term investments in premium storytelling, the best of live sports, and a high-quality streaming experience at scale for our audiences.”

Under the new structure, Hollywood content will be bundled into the Super and Premium tiers for new subscribers. Users on the Mobile tier, however, will need to pay extra for access to Hollywood titles through an add-on, priced at ₹49 per month, ₹129 quarterly, or ₹399 annually. The company said this modular approach will allow viewers to customise their subscriptions based on personal preferences.
The Mobile tier will continue to be ad-supported and allow streaming on one mobile device at a time. The Super tier will support access on up to two devices simultaneously, while the Premium tier will offer streaming on up to four devices, along with an ad-free experience for most content, except live sports and select live shows.
JioHotstar said it has crossed one billion downloads on Google Play and now serves more than 450 million monthly active users across all of India’s pin codes. Its library spans over 300,000 hours of content across languages and genres, including sports, films, originals, reality shows, kids’ programming, anime, and international titles.
Industry watchers see the shift to monthly pricing as part of a broader trend in India’s streaming market, where platforms are experimenting with smaller ticket sizes and flexible plans to drive adoption beyond urban users and into family households.
