Otis India’s innovative mobility solutions to support India’s first high-speed rail corridor

Otis India is using its industry and engineering expertise to help transform the future of rail travel across the country, supporting new connections and faster journeys for people traveling between Mumbai and Ahmedabad on the new high-speed rail corridor.

Recent new orders bring the total number of Otis units on the high-tech railway to 55 elevators and escalators, spanning six stations and one depot. Otis India is a subsidiary of Otis Worldwide Corporation, the world’s leading manufacturer, installer, and service provider of elevators and escalators, per the press release.

The megaproject, which includes developing stations with future-ready elevator and escalator systems, will utilize the same Shinkansen (Bullet Train) technology that has transformed travel across Japan. It will reduce train travel time on the 508 km route to just over 2 hours, with the fastest trains reaching up to 320 km/hr, saving passengers around 4 hours.

The Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor is the first project in a planned high-speed rail network that will eventually connect more cities and regions.

The Gen2 Stream elevator systems will feature machine-room-less, gearless technology, powered by Otis ReGen regenerative drive systems that enable elevators to convert excess energy into electricity. The Otis 520 NPE escalator systems are heavy-duty designs focused on safety, endurance, efficiency, and reliability. They are designed for bi-directional travel to keep busy transport hubs moving smoothly, per the release.
