As India’s growth story gains momentum and the number of billionaires rises, the country’s luxury market is seeing a boom like never before, with the taste for luxury moving beyond the metros. From high-end watches and jewellery to lavish residences and luxurious holidays, Indians are splurging like never before. Storied luxury brands are rushing in to satiate this demand, often roping in Indian celebs as ambassadors.
DIAL carried out a comprehensive upgrade of Terminal 2 to cater to the rising passenger traffic, optimising operations and offering travellers a seamless experience.
“Terminal 2 is not just a facility upgrade-it's a complete reimagination of the passenger journey. With innovative technologies like the Self Baggage Drap and autonomous docking aerobridges, we are empowering travellers, optimising efficiency, and preparing IGI Airport for the future of aviation,” said Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO, DIAL, in a statement.
The range of upgrades set to be introduced at the refurbished terminal include Self Baggage Drop (SBD) and Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBBs).
Inside the terminal, passengers will find modern ceilings and skylight designs, with enhanced flooring solutions.
The Self Baggage Drop (SBD) facility will have over 580 counters installed. This self-service option will simply require passengers to scan their boarding passes, tag their luggage, and drop their bags off within minutes. This will drastically reduce queues and wait times.
The Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBBs) will feature six state-of-the-art PBBs autonomous docking technology, which has been procured from South Korea. These bridges come with elevated ramps for wheelchair users, optimally adjusted cabins for easier boarding, side-covering cushions for added safety, and wing doors that improve operator protection.
There will also be several mechanical and electrical upgrades with renovated HVAC systems, advanced fire safety systems, and upgraded electrical infrastructure. The airside and apron zones will also reportedly see major refurbishments, facilitating smoother aircraft operations and help accommodate the growing traffic efficiently.
Additionally, the terminal 2 will see a high-resolution Flight Information Display System (FIDS), that will provide passengers with real-time flight details.
