Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today launched the Taisor compact SUV in India at a starting price of ₹7.74 lakh, which can go up to ₹13.04 lakh for higher variants. The Taisor, which is a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and slightly pricier than that too, will allow the company to re-enter the A-SUV segment.
Claiming to be the smallest Toyota SUV in India, the Taisor is available in 1.0L turbo, 1.2L petrol and E-CNG options. The 1.0L turbo is available in 5-speed manual transmission and 6-speed automatic transmission. While the 1.2L petrol comes in a 5-speed manual transmission and intelligent gear shift (IGS), the 1.2L E-CNG comes in a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Taisor delivers maximum power of 100.06 PS at 5,500 rpm in the 1.0L Turbo option, with claimed fuel efficiency of 21.5 km/l for manual and 20.0 km/l for automatic. The 1.2L petrol engine offers 89.73 PS at 6000 rpm, with a fuel efficiency of 21.7 for manual and 22.8 km/l for automatic. The Taisor’s E-CNG version claims a fuel efficiency of 28.5 km/kg.
Masakazu Yoshimura, MD and CEO, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, says the Indian market has always been of "paramount importance" to the company. "Our business strategy in the market will be to continue to focus on contributing to national priorities of localisation, developing a highly skilled workforce and achieving carbon goals."
The Taisor boasts a sloping roofline, a front grille with chrome garnish, and 16” alloy wheels. Twin LED daytime running lights, the LED rear combi lamps, the shark fin antenna and the skid plate are other exterior features.
The interior has a dual-tone dashboard, silver metal finish accents, fabric seats, a flat-bottom leather-wrapped steering wheel, tilt and telescopic steering. The SUV will also come with an electric power steering, rear AC vents, adjustable seat headrest and a height-adjustable driver's seat.
The Taisor will be available in single-tone and dual-tone colours, including cafe white, enticing silver, gaming grey, sportin red, lucent orange, and sportin red dual tone, silver dual tone and cafe white dual tone.
The bookings for the Taisor have opened today at ₹11,000, while the deliveries will start in May 2024.
India's largest passenger vehicle maker Maruti Suzuki India had last year launched FRONX, under its NEXA offering, at a starting price of ₹7,46,500. The FRONX offers a 1.0L Turbo Boosterjet engine which provides an acceleration of 0-60 km/h in 5.3 seconds. It is also available with the choice of a 5-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
