Infosys Public Services chief Lax Gopisetty missing after Nepal flash floods; company coordinates search and support

Infosys said on Friday that Lax Gopisetty, chief of its subsidiary Infosys Public Services, remains unreachable amid the devastating floods in Nepal.

The Bengaluru-headquartered IT services company said Gopisetty had travelled to the region in a personal capacity and that ensuring his safety and well-being was its immediate priority.

"We can confirm that our colleague Lax Gopisetty, who was visiting the region in a personal capacity, is currently not reachable," Infosys said.

The company said it was coordinating with relevant agencies to obtain more information and establish contact with Gopisetty. It is also in close touch with his family and is extending all necessary support, Infosys said.

"We remain in close communication with the family and are providing all necessary support during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with Lax and all those affected by this tragedy," Infosys said.

Infosys said it was deeply saddened by the devastating floods in Nepal and the loss of lives caused by the tragedy.

Gopisetty heads Infosys Public Services, the Infosys subsidiary that primarily serves public sector organisations in the US and Canada.

According to his profile on the Infosys website, Gopisetty works with public sector organisations on strategy, technology, operations and transformation, while overseeing the company's strategy and execution.

Before becoming chief of Infosys Public Services, he served as Global Vice President at Infosys and headed its Business Applications and Digital Workspace Service. In that role, he expanded the practice across the Americas, Europe and Asia.

320 Indians remain missing after Nepal flash floods

The development comes as authorities continue rescue and evacuation efforts in the flood-hit region. The Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday that at least 320 Indians remain missing, while another 400 are stranded on the Chinese side after flash floods struck areas along the Nepal-Tibet border.

India has conveyed its readiness to provide all possible assistance to Nepal in dealing with the crisis. According to the MEA, 153 Indian nationals who were stranded on the Chinese side have safely crossed into Nepal.

Twenty-one Indians reached New Delhi on Friday after arriving in Kathmandu from the flood-affected areas a day earlier, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
