Commercial flight operations from Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar will begin on June 15, marking a key milestone for one of India’s largest greenfield airport projects and giving the National Capital Region (NCR) its third commercial airport.
IndiGo will become the first airline to commence services from the airport, with the inaugural flight scheduled from Lucknow to Noida on the opening day. The carrier is expected to gradually expand operations by connecting the airport to more than 16 domestic destinations in phases.
Located along the Yamuna Expressway, the airport is expected to strengthen regional connectivity across western Uttar Pradesh while supporting the state government’s broader infrastructure and logistics ambitions.
The inaugural Lucknow–Noida flight will depart at 7:05 am on June 15 and arrive at Jewar at 8:05 am. This will be followed by the first Bengaluru-bound service from the airport later in the day.
In the coming months, IndiGo plans to connect the airport with cities including Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Dharamshala, Pantnagar, Srinagar and Navi Mumbai, among others. The phased rollout is expected to improve direct connectivity for passengers travelling from western Uttar Pradesh and nearby regions.
The launch also reflects the emergence of a multi-airport system in NCR, where passenger traffic growth has been driving the need for additional aviation infrastructure beyond Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Noida International Airport is being developed as an integrated multimodal transport hub with planned road, rail and future rapid transit connectivity. Officials believe the project could become a major catalyst for economic activity along the Yamuna Expressway corridor.
A spokesperson associated with the airport project said the operationalisation of Jewar airport would support connectivity, trade, tourism and employment generation across the region while strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s position in India’s aviation and logistics ecosystem.
Industry experts also expect the airport to reduce congestion pressure on Delhi’s IGI Airport while improving accessibility for businesses and travellers in western Uttar Pradesh.
The project forms part of the Uttar Pradesh government’s larger infrastructure-led development strategy, which has seen significant investments across expressways, metro rail networks, logistics parks and industrial corridors.
India’s domestic aviation market has continued to witness strong growth, aided by rising passenger demand and expanding regional air connectivity.
For IndiGo, the launch of operations from Jewar further consolidates its presence in North India. The airline currently operates a fleet of over 400 aircraft and runs more than 2,200 flights daily across domestic and international routes.
With commercial operations now set to begin next month, Noida International Airport is expected to emerge as a critical addition to India’s fast-expanding aviation infrastructure network.
