This Wednesday’s session snapped the eight-day declining streak of the Indian benchmark indices, as investors’ sentiment rose due to the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy announcement that day. RBI kept the repo rate steady at 5.5% after the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting. The MPC, led by RBI governor Sanjay Malhotra, also chose to keep its neutral stance.

The BSE Sensex ended on a strong note, rising 715.69 points or 0.89% at 80,983.31, and the NSE Nifty50 was up 225.20 points or 0.92% at 24,836.30.

Tata Motors emerged as the top gainer, as the anticipated demerger came into effect today. According to an exchange filing, the auto company announced the record date of October 14 to ascertain the eligibility of shareholders for the issuance of shares for the demerged commercial vehicles business. With this demerger, the commercial and passenger vehicles businesses will become two listed entities.

On the other hand, Bajaj Finance and the State Bank of India were the top laggards, each declining by 1.16% and 0.83%. UltraTech Cement also dipped by 0.79%.
