Elon Musk’s xAI unveils Grok 3 as ‘world’s smartest AI,’ offers free access 'until servers melt'—features, availability, and more

Grok 3 reasoning: Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence (AI) venture, xAI, has said in its latest update that its generative AI tool, Grok 3 can be considered as the “world’s smartest AI,” and is now available for free.
The announcement was made via xAI’s official account on X (formerly Twitter), noting that users subscribed to X Premium and SuperGrok will receive enhanced access.
Grok 3 Goes Public with Expanded Features
In a post on X, xAI stated, “This is it: The world’s smartest AI, Grok 3, now available for free (until our servers melt). Try Grok 3 now: https://x.com/i/grok. X Premium+ and SuperGrok users will have increased access to Grok 3, in addition to early access to advanced features like Voice Mode.”
Grok 3’s release marks a significant step in xAI’s ambition to challenge AI giants like OpenAI and Google DeepMind.
The chatbot is designed to offer advanced reasoning capabilities, enhanced information synthesis, and improved problem-solving abilities.
Most importantly, Grok 3's arrival comes at a crucial time when China has already unveiled its cheaper and better Gen AI tool, DeepSeek, which, upon its arrival, sent American semiconductor major Nvidia's shares in a tailspin.

DeepSearch & Think: A New Standard in AI Reasoning?
Grok 3 introduces two key innovations—DeepSearch and Think. According to xAI, DeepSearch is engineered to extract critical insights, analyze conflicting data, and present distilled summaries, aiming to keep users informed in an increasingly fast-paced world.
Meanwhile, Think is powered by reinforcement learning (RL) at an unprecedented scale. xAI claims that Grok 3’s Think module improves its problem-solving skills over time, allowing it to refine strategies, correct mistakes, and verify solutions in a manner akin to human cognition. “Just like a human tackling a complex problem, it can spend anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes reasoning, often considering multiple approaches to ensure precision,” the company explained in its blog post.
Availability & API Expansion
Grok 3 is accessible on iOS via a dedicated app and through its own website. It is also integrated into X, where Premium users can leverage its full suite of capabilities.
For developers, xAI has teased an imminent API release. “Developers: Soon, we'll release Grok 3, both standard and reasoning, and DeepSearch via our API. Grok 3 is just the beginning. Come join us to build the future with us,” the company announced.
With Musk’s ambitious AI push, Grok 3’s public rollout is set to intensify competition in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
