What changes in your Galaxy device, as Samsung rolls out One UI 8?

Samsung Electronics has officially rolled out its latest One UI model today, Tuesday, bringing more advanced multimodal AI capabilities and a more optimised user interface to all Galaxy devices including smartphones, tablets and watches

This week onwards the flagship Galaxy S2 series will get the latest Android-based operating system (OS) of the brand.

By the end of this calendar year, other devices including S2 series, Z Fold6, Z Flip6, S2 FE and additional eligible models will also get the One UI OS.

What changes with the One UI 8?

Improved AI integration into daily UI/UX

The added AI-driven features focus on personalisation, usability, and security, combining integrates multimodal AI (visual, auditory, contextual) to streamline daily tasks.

The Now Bar in FlexWindow of Samsung's Galaxy ZFlip will now show real-time app activity and media progress. FlexWindow supports curated wallpapers, emojis, and background colour options. Meanwhile, Now Brief gives daily updates such as traffic, reminders, Samsung Moments, media suggestions, and health insights from Galaxy Watch.

Further, a new adaptive clock design automatically adjusts to wallpapers.

Added AI features to One UI OS

Samsung Galaxy devices will now get Gemini Live, which will also support live AI assistance on the go. Additionally, improved Google’s Circle to Search will now have in-game help, character info, strategies, and real-time translations on-screen.

Some of the other AI tools introduced now include Portrait Studio that can generate studio-like pet portraits, Call Captions will now be able to convert speech to text during calls, Interpreter allows typed translations, and Audio Eraser removes background noise from videos and audio.

Further, something called the AI Results View is also introduced that maintains the original content visible, while showing AI results in split or floating view simultaneously. On large screens, users can drag and drop AI-generated text or images, with tools like Drawing Assist and Writing Assist for creative tasks.

Security features assume more importance

To build AI with security features, Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP) makes app-specific encrypted storage. Meanwhile, with the new Knox Matrix, compromised devices are automatically signed out, and alerts are sent to the head account. Meanwhile, secure Wi-Fi will now include post-quantum cryptography.
