Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava surpasses Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan and Jawan in second-week collections, racing towards the ₹400 crore mark at the box office.
Vicky Kaushal’s historical action drama Chhaava is proving to be an unstoppable force at the box office, amassing a staggering ₹328.87 crore India net in just 11 days. The film’s strong hold at the ticket counters reflects not only its widespread appeal but also Kaushal’s growing stature as a bankable star.
The film opened to a spectacular response, raking in ₹31 crore on its first Friday. The momentum only grew over the weekend, with collections surging to ₹37 crore on Saturday and an impressive ₹48.5 crore on Sunday. Even after the weekend, Chhaava showed remarkable staying power, pulling in ₹24 crore on Monday, ₹25.25 crore on Tuesday, ₹32 crore on Wednesday, and ₹21.5 crore on Thursday, ending its first week with a robust total of ₹219.25 crore.
Entering its second weekend, Chhaava maintained its dominance at the box office. Despite stiff competition from the highly anticipated India-Pakistan cricket match, the film earned ₹23.5 crore on its second Friday. The collections spiked on Saturday with ₹44 crore and remained strong on Sunday with ₹40 crore, taking its second-weekend tally to a whopping ₹107.5 crore, as per data from Sacnilk.
This makes Chhaava the second-highest second-weekend collection for a Hindi film in recent memory, only trailing Pushpa 2 (Hindi), which registered ₹127 crore. The film has outperformed several recent blockbusters, surpassing the second-weekend numbers of Stree 2 (₹92.9 crore), Gadar 2, Animal (₹87.56 crore), Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan (₹82.46 crore), and Pathaan (₹63.5 crore).
Even on its eleventh day, the momentum didn’t slow, with early estimates suggesting a collection of ₹2.12 crore across all languages. This pushed the India net total to ₹328.87 crore, while the worldwide gross has surged to an impressive ₹418 crore.
The film’s success can be attributed to its gripping narrative, Kaushal’s powerful performance, and positive word of mouth that has continued to draw audiences to theatres. Despite external factors like major cricket matches cutting into potential footfalls, Chhaava has maintained its hold on the audience’s attention. With its current pace, the film is poised to become one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, setting new benchmarks for historical action dramas in Bollywood.
Chhaava, from the stables of Maddock Films, is a historical action drama that delves into the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the valiant son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The film is a chronicle of Sambhaji’s fierce resistance against the Mughal Empire and his unwavering dedication to preserving the Maratha kingdom’s sovereignty. Vicky Kaushal portrays Sambhaji, and critics have lauded his acting for its intensity, capturing both the king's warrior spirit and the personal sacrifices he made for his people.
The narrative explores his strategic brilliance, devotion to his father’s legacy, and the brutal challenges he faced.
