BMW India has opened pre-launch bookings for the locally produced MINI Countryman C, marking a key step in its localisation strategy as it looks to scale volumes in the premium compact SUV segment. Bookings for the model commenced at 1500 hours on April 22, 2026, across MINI dealerships nationwide.
The MINI Countryman C will be assembled at BMW Group’s Chennai facility and offered exclusively in a petrol variant. The move is expected to help the automaker optimise costs, improve supply timelines and enhance accessibility in a segment where pricing remains a critical lever despite premium positioning.
With this launch, BMW India completes the MINI Countryman portfolio in the country, adding a locally produced internal combustion option alongside performance-oriented and electric variants.
The shift to local assembly is a strategic lever for BMW India as it seeks to mitigate high import duties associated with completely built units. Producing the Countryman C in Chennai is likely to improve cost efficiencies and enable more competitive pricing in a segment witnessing steady growth.
The Chennai plant already serves as a key manufacturing hub for BMW Group India, and the addition of the MINI Countryman C is expected to further enhance capacity utilisation. The localisation also aligns with broader industry trends, where luxury automakers are increasingly deepening manufacturing footprints in India.
MINI India currently operates 12 sales touchpoints across nine cities, including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad. The brand’s aftersales service is integrated with BMW Group India’s wider network, which spans 51 touchpoints across 36 cities.
Customers can pre-book the MINI Countryman C through authorised dealerships, with the company also enabling digital engagement through its website for product exploration and lead generation.
The introduction of the petrol-powered, locally produced Countryman C adds a new dimension to MINI’s India lineup. While the JCW Countryman All4 caters to performance enthusiasts, and the Countryman E and SE All4 represent the brand’s electric push, the Countryman C is positioned as a practical, everyday premium SUV.
The launch reflects BMW India’s calibrated approach to portfolio diversification—balancing internal combustion and electric offerings—while leveraging localisation to drive growth in a competitive and increasingly value-conscious luxury car market.
