JSW MG Motor India and Nissan Motor India have joined a growing list of carmakers making a beeline to offer price cuts on their portfolios to fully pass the benefits of the reduction in GST rate cuts to the consumers, the carmakers announced on Monday.

For JSW MG Motor India, the price reductions came into effect from September 7. “The government’s decision to rationalise GST is a good move that directly addresses the affordability challenge for car buyers and builds positive consumer sentiment. By extending the full benefit of this reform across our SUV portfolio, we want to ensure customers experience the immediate value of this change,” Vinay Raina, chief commercial officer, JSW MG Motor India, said in a statement.

The MG Astor will see a full GST benefit of ₹54,000, whereas the MG Hector will see a benefit of ₹1.49 lakh. The MG Gloster, JSW MG Motor India’s flagship ICE offering, will see a benefit of ₹3.04 lakh.  

“This GST reduction is a timely stimulus for the automotive industry and a direct win for our customers…as we approach the festive season—a traditionally vibrant period for the market—we anticipate this measure will boost consumer enthusiasm and help drive sustained momentum in the automotive sector,” said Saurabh Vatsa, managing director, Nissan Motor India, in a statement.

Post revision, the New Nissan Magnite Visia MT is available at under ₹6 lakh. The New Nissan Magnite N-Connecta CVT and New Nissan Magnite KURO Special Edition CVT variants are now projected at below ₹10 lakh. The top-end variants—New Nissan Magnite CVT Tekna & CVT Tekna+—are now accessible with a major price reduction of about ₹97,300 and ₹1,00,400, respectively.

With the GST rate reduction, the CNG retrofitment kit for the New Nissan Magnite is now accessible at a more attractive price of ₹71,999, with additional savings of ₹3000.

On Sunday, Hyundai Motor India announced that it will also completely pass the benefit of the GST reduction on passenger vehicles, effective September 22. “We sincerely appreciate the progressive and far-sighted move by the Government of India to reduce GST on passenger vehicles. This reform is not only a boost to the automotive industry but also a strong step towards empowering millions of customers by making personal mobility more affordable and accessible,” said Unsoo Kim, managing director, Hyundai Motor India Limited, in a statement.

The Nios will see a cut of up to ₹73,808, while the Aura and Exter will be cheaper by ₹78,465 and ₹89,209, respectively. The i20 is reduced by ₹98,053, and its sportier variant, the i20 N Line, by ₹1,08,116. The Venue will now be lower by ₹1,23,659, and the Venue N Line by ₹1,19,390.

The Verna gets a price drop of ₹60,640, while the Creta and Creta N Line—its best-selling models—will see their prices reduced by ₹72,145 and ₹71,762, respectively. The larger Alcazar is now cheaper by ₹75,376, and the premium, flagship SUV Tucson has the steepest reduction, with prices slashed by up to ₹2,40,303.

Automobile manufacturers have rushed to announce price cuts following the GST reforms. Homegrown carmaker Tata Motors was the first to act, with reductions of up to ₹1.55 lakh across models like the Nexon, Safari, Harrier, and Tiago. Mahindra followed, with its revised rates effective September 6, offering savings of up to ₹1.56 lakh across its SUV portfolio—including the XUV3O, Thar, Scorpio, and Bolero—gaining an edge ahead of the Navaratri season.

Toyota, given the scale of its portfolio, announced the steepest cuts, with the Fortuner down by as much as ₹3.49 lakh, alongside sizable benefits on the Innova, Hilux, and premium cars like the Camry and Vellfire. Renault, too, reduced prices by up to ₹96,395 across the Triber, Kiger, and Kwid.

According to data released by FADA, JSW MG Motor India sold 5,717 units in August, compared to 4,117 units in the same month last year. Nissan Motor India, on the other hand, sold 1,440 units in August, compared to 2,011 units in August of last year. Hyundai Motor India Limited was the third-largest carmaker in August, selling 42,226 units, compared to 43,438 units last year.
