Online game streaming platform Rooter has clocked 120% year-on-year revenue growth in FY25, with its expansion into gaming commerce. The company reported $10 million (Rs 82 crore) in revenue for the financial year, a significant increase from $4.5 million (Rs 38 crore) in FY24, driven by scaling new user monetisation streams, along with brand and publisher monetisation channels.
The company, tracking $24 million Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) currently, aims to grow around 4X by FY26. Towards this effort, it has reduced its losses by 63% in the last 12 months and claims it is on the path to hit profitability within the financial year.
With an audience base of 85 million gamers, Rooter, India’s game streaming platform, has forayed into the gaming commerce segment to power user monetisation and the in-app transaction economy. Its Rooter Shop offers them gaming currencies, vouchers, and gift cards to support their gaming experiences. The in-app purchase market in India is poised to surpass $1 billion this year and reach $4.3 billion by 2029, according to estimates.
Piyush, Founder & CEO, Rooter said Rooter’s expansion into gaming commerce will create growth opportunities for games and publishers who wish to scale with India’s paying gaming audience. "Over the next 12 months, we aim to maintain our position in the gaming content space and continue with the pace of growth of Rooter Shop, expecting to hit a $90 million GMV run rate by March '26.”
Rooter works with over 100 brands, connecting them with gaming audiences. The company is now focusing on community engagement and commerce solutions. Piyush had earlier told Fortune India that the gaming industry in India is booming, with gameplay, content, esports, and in-app purchases (IAP) converging.
"Indian gamers are spending more time and money, driving 40% YoY growth in the IAP market. Rooter is the only Indian company combining game streaming for creators with a commerce platform for gamers and publishers today. Therefore, we've become an integral part of creator monetisation through brand deals and monetisation through users and publishers," he said.
The country’s e-gaming industry, which employs over 130,000 skilled workers, has seen phenomenal growth in recent times, despite battling several challenges.
