Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, during the TiEcon Delhi-NCR 2025 today, urged Indian entrepreneurs to think big and have global ambitions, saying that the world is looking at India closely. He said India as a nation is meant to play a big role in the world at the global level. He said that through various schemes to nurture its young talent, the government has played a key role in embedding innovation into India’s DNA.
Key highlights from Goyal's speech at TiEcon Delhi-NCR 2025:
1. Goyal said that from the semiconductor mission to the government's efforts in fostering inquisitiveness, inquiry, and innovation, it aims to embed technology into India’s DNA by strengthening the IP ecosystem. "All these elements, collectively, form the deep-tech ecosystem the government is nurturing and organisations are investing in — not just financially, but in spirit and vision. A simple Google search will show the growing resonance of the term ‘deeptech’ among the youth.”
2. He said India's home-grown deep-tech startups, some of whom are already listed amongst the top technological innovations, those who have done exceedingly well internationally, will also be ready and willing to engage with India, and will also be willing to work with India's domestic startups and support new ideas. "And I can assure you, through my international travels and international engagements, the world is looking up to you. The world has high expectations from each one of you.”

As India’s growth story gains momentum and the number of billionaires rises, the country’s luxury market is seeing a boom like never before, with the taste for luxury moving beyond the metros. From high-end watches and jewellery to lavish residences and luxurious holidays, Indians are splurging like never before. Storied luxury brands are rushing in to satiate this demand, often roping in Indian celebs as ambassadors.
3. He said the world is convinced that the capital of talent and skill is in India today. "They see the 15 lakh engineers coming out of college every year. They see the 24 lakh overall STEM graduates, the highest number of STEM graduates that any country in the world produces, coming out of India today. Across the world, people are looking up to you."
5. The Union Minister said that the 1.4 billion people, who are enterprising, intelligent, and willing to take risks, are not meant to be looking at small goals and small ambitions. "We as a nation are committed to playing a big role at the global level, be it our investors, be it our small or big deep-tech enterprises, be it our huge talent in India, internationally. Let’s leverage all these skills together. Let’s get all these resources.”
The Union Commerce Minister's visit to Brussels concluded on 28 October 2025. During a presser later today, Goyal said he had several interactions on outstanding issues related to the ongoing India-EU FTA negotiations, with businesses from Europe, and that India was working towards a fair, equitable and balanced free trade agreement with the EU. "If I were to summarise the visit, first, we have made significant progress in this three-day discussion. We have agreed to close 10 out of 20 chapters. Another 4 or 5 chapters have, in principle, been broadly decided. We are moving towards convergence so that when their team visits next week, we should be in a position to make significant progress towards closure," he said.
